National Sweet Corn-Eating Championship

Competitive eaters made their annual pilgrimage to West Palm Beach, FL, on Sunday, April 24, for the National Sweet Corn-Eating Championship, sanctioned by the International Federation of Competitive Eating (IFOCE).

Jammin' Joe LaRue of Hollywood, FL, defended local honor and unseated reigning champ Cookie Jarvis by consuming 31 ears of South Florida sweet corn-on-the-cob in 12 minutes. For his efforts he received a $1,000 cash prize, along with the sweet corn and the prestigious title of World Sweet Corn Eating Champion.

The competition was part of the Fifth Annual Sweet Corn Fiesta held at Yesteryear Village at the South Florida Fairgrounds.

Ed "Cookie" Jarvis set the world record of 33½ ears of corn in 12 minutes in 2004.
