Pretzel Twister World Pretzel Eating Championship

A new record was be set on January 20, 2007 in the discipline of Pretzel Twister Soft Pretzels. Many of the nation's top gurgitators jumped at the chance to warm up this winter by heading to Miami for a piece of the $3000 purse.

Joey Chestnut took home an important win after a couple of surprising losses in December. He has now gained $1500, a new title, and has put himself in front of the points chase.

Joey ate 21 for the win, ahead of Tim Janus who narrowly beat out Sonya Thomas for 2nd place after Sonya was given a half-pretzel deduction for a violation. Tim had a total of 17.5, and Sonya came in 3rd with 17.

Newcomer Pat Bruss wowed the crowd with 15 pretzels, beating out veterans Dale Boone and Joe LaRue, who ate 13.75 and 13 pretzels, respectively.

Florida boy Hall Hunt finished with 11.5, just ahead of Rios Grande, who had 11 even. Wing Kong and Brickhouse each put away 9 pretzels to round out the top ten.

Michael Parish ate 8.5, Bill Roth had 6.5, and Michael Plasencia brought up the rear with 5 pretzels.
